In the past two years, the number of drug offenders who were directly investigated and arrested by the prosecution has doubled to 620 than before.

The Justice Department said prosecutors directly recognized 2,277 drug offenders from October last year to September this year and arrested 621 people.

Compared to the performance from October 2020 to September of last year, the number of recognized people increased by nearly 20%, and the number of arrested people increased by about 95%.

In this regard, the Ministry of Justice explained that the scope of the prosecution's direct investigation of drugs, which had been reduced by the adjustment of the prosecution's investigation rights, has expanded to crimes such as drug smuggling and distribution due to the revision of the law in September last year.

It also analyzed that the crackdown on drug offenders has turned to a decreasing trend since July due to the effect of cooperation and intensive crackdowns by related agencies.

However, the Ministry of Justice emphasized the need for strict response, saying that teenage drug offenders continue to occur due to the spread of non-face-to-face drug transactions among young people using the dark web.
