U.S. President Joe Biden is the first sitting U.S. president to visit the Amazon rainforest, expressing his commitment to increasing international funding to combat climate change by more than $11 billion a year.
After the APEC summit in Lima, Peru, President Biden looked over the Amazon on Air Force One before attending the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and expressed his commitment to preserving the rainforest.
The White House explained, "By this year, we will keep our pledge to increase the amount of international funding to combat climate change by more than $11 billion a year, making the United States the world's largest donor of climate resources."
The U.S. government also announced an additional $50 million in donations to Amazon funds, saying Biden signs a document that designates Nov. 17 as "International Preservation Day" every year.
However, Trump has defended the unlimited production of fossil energy, denying the climate crisis theory as a fraud, raising concerns that he may not donate a single penny to the Amazon fund.
