The U.S. special envoy for the Middle East plans to visit Lebanon soon to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

Lebanon explains that Hezbollah is also positive about the ceasefire, but it is difficult to be optimistic about a settlement, and dozens more people have been killed in Gaza, where Israeli airstrikes continue.

Lebanese Prime Minister Mikati has expressed expectations for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

Hezbollah is generally positive about the U.S. ceasefire mediation.

U.S. special envoy to the Middle East Hochstein will soon visit Lebanon and Israel in turn to coordinate details, local media reported.

U.S. President-elect Trump has also agreed to a draft ceasefire, Lebanese sources told CNN.

But Israel has dismissed optimism, saying it will continue to attack Hezbollah regardless of the ceasefire deal.

The Gaza war, more than a year ago, has been suspended even from negotiations.

Dozens more were killed in a day as Israel launched airstrikes on homes and refugee camp tents across Gaza.

[Um Yahya / Witness: Hamas is not here. Israel killed them all and there's no one here. Civilians are dead. Israel is killing children and women, not Hamas.]

The Palestinian death toll is now close to 44,000.

U.S. President Biden, who attended the G20 summit, said Hamas is rejecting a cease-fire and that international pressure should be stepped up.
