Campbell "paying enough for South Korea's defense...The Trump administration should know."

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said he hopes the second Trump administration, which will be launched in January next year, will continue to strengthen the South Korea-U.S. alliance as pushed by the Biden administration.

Campbell said at the Korea-U.S. Strategic Forum held at the Center for Strategic and International Studies that Korea recently reached a very generous and generous defense cost-sharing agreement with South Korea, thereby demonstrating its willingness to maintain the U.S. military deployment.

He added that he hopes the new administration will fully appreciate the wisdom of the defense agreement.

Campbell said the transition is a challenging time and he hopes the key people to participate in the Trump administration will be aides who understand the meaning and importance of the Indo-Pacific.

It pointed out that if attempts were made to reduce U.S. power or change the nature of the underlying U.S. commitment to the Indo-Pacific, it would be against U.S. strategic interests.

If the U.S. wants to influence Asia's dynamics, Campbell said the more complete political and strategic alignment of the three countries is, the better, and he hopes the Trump administration will continue to strengthen three-way cooperation.
