Ulsan City will lift 930,000 square meters of the Ulsan Sports Park site, which spans Ok-dong, Heavy-dong, Nam-gu, and Cheongnyang-eup, Ulju-gun, from the development restriction zone and expand sports facilities.

Ulsan City will expand the seats of Munsu Baseball Stadium in the park from 12,000 seats to 17,000 seats and build a youth hostel that can be used by 300 players with 100 rooms.

In addition, the country's first urban canoe slalom center will be built to foster professional athletes as well as international competitions and encourage citizens to enjoy various sports such as canoeing.

Since its establishment in 2002, Ulsan Sports Park has constantly discussed the need to expand facilities such as toilets and parking lots, but it has been blocked due to restrictions on development zones.

In response, Ulsan City came up with measures to minimize forest damage and water pollution and persuaded the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Environment to lift the development restriction zone this time.

Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom said, "By lifting the development restriction zone, Ulsan Sports Park will be reborn as a sports and leisure center," adding, "We will develop Ulsan into an international sports center through various facilities such as a youth hostel and a canoe slalom center."
