Australia Proposes Bill To Ban Social Network Under-16sthe first in the world

The Australian government has introduced the world's first legislation to ban teenagers under the age of 16 from using social media.

The bill calls for fines of up to 50 million Australian dollars and 45.5 billion won in our money if social media platforms fail to prevent children or teenagers from holding accounts.

If the bill is passed, TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, X, Instagram and others will have to come up with a way to limit the age of users within a year.

"Two-thirds of Australian teenagers aged 14 to 17 have seen extremely harmful content online, including substance abuse, suicide, self-harm and violence," Australian Communications Minister Michelle Rowland said in her presentation to Parliament today (21st).

In addition, the Australian government is seeking ways to prevent teenagers under the age of 18 from accessing online sexual exploitation.
