Cho Sang-won, the 4th chief prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, who was listed on the Democratic Party's impeachment notice list for not prosecuting Kim Gun-hee's alleged involvement in Deutsche Motors stock price manipulation, said it was an "abuse of impeachment rights."
Deputy Prosecutor Cho met with reporters this afternoon (21st) and said, "It is a clear abuse of the National Assembly's right to impeach the prosecutor in charge for not liking the conclusion of the investigation."
He then asked the prosecutors if they had any serious constitutional or legal violations to justify impeachment, and asked them again which prosecutors would be able to work as they believed if they were impeached for investigating the case.
He added that if the impeachment of three prosecutors, including Lee Chang-soo, head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, is actually carried out, it will greatly disrupt the investigation of the money envelope case at the Democratic Party of Korea National Convention and the maintenance of the prosecution of Lee Jae-myung's perjury teacher case.
Earlier, the Democratic Party of Korea has filed a complaint with the Senior Prosecutor Lee, Deputy Prosecutor Cho, and Anti-Corruption 2nd Director Choi Jae-hoon against the Senior Prosecutor's Office for dereliction of duty, saying the prosecution has not properly investigated Kim's alleged Deutsche Motors.
Prosecutor Lee and Deputy Prosecutor Cho served as the head of the branch and deputy head of the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, respectively, and led investigations related to Lee, including the Seongnam FC case and the recently convicted Public Official Election Act.
