[Network] Head of five cities and counties in Honam, "Consider the west coast railway in the national plan."

The heads of five basic organizations in Gochang, Gunsan, Buan, North Jeolla Province, and Yeonggwang and Hampyeong, South Jeolla Province, held a press conference at Gochang County Office and urged the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to reflect the west coast railway and the "Gunsan-Mokpo Line" in the fifth national railway network construction plan scheduled to be finalized and announced in the second half of next year.

They expressed concern that the railway network has not been established for years, even though the west coast of Honam serves as the backbone of high-tech industries that will lead the country's future, including electric vehicles, shipbuilding and offshore wind power.

In addition, he stressed that since two international airports and three international passenger terminals will be in full operation on the west coast of Honam within five years, the railway network is essential to send overseas tourists inland.

The heads of these organizations will form a consultative body by the end of this year to deliver a joint resolution to the National Assembly Transportation Committee and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
