It has been argued that state responsibility should be strengthened with central government support for shingles vaccination, which is currently dependent on local government support projects or individuals.

Rep. Lee Chun-seok of the Democratic Party of Korea held a "policy debate to prepare measures to prevent shingles" with Rep. Seo Mi-hwa, and suggested that shingles have a gap in inoculation rates depending on the financial situation of each local government.

He then explained that Korea is in high demand for the so-called "three sets of filial piety vaccines," and among them, the flu and pneumococcus are free of charge by the state through the national vaccination support project.

Lee pointed out, however, that vaccination is not easy because of the high cost, although shingles can cause common diseases or very big pain and have a high possibility of complications in the elderly.
