Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol, the chief delegate to the government delegation, will not attend, although the government has promised to work on an international agreement to end plastic pollution next week.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Cho will attend a meeting of foreign ministers from seven major countries in Fiji, Italy, starting the day after tomorrow (25th).
As a result, I will not attend the 5th Intergovernmental Negotiation Committee for the Plastic Convention in BEXCO, Busan, starting the day after tomorrow.
The negotiating committee is the last meeting scheduled to draft the plastic agreement, and there are currently conflicting opinions between countries on issues such as plastic regulation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Kim Wan-seop, the Minister of Environment, has been appointed as the chief representative of the replacement and will show his willingness by sending Cho's video congratulations to the opening ceremony.
