The Japanese government expressed regret over the fact that the "Sado Mine Memorial Ceremony" was held as a "half-way event" due to the absence of Korea on the 25th.

"We are not in a position to explain why South Korea did not attend the memorial service, but we regret that South Korea did not participate," Japanese government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a press conference this morning.

It is the first time that a Japanese minister has spoken about a related issue at a press conference since the South Korean government's decision not to attend the Sado mine memorial ceremony.
