Police have caught middle school students who produced and distributed synthetic videos and deepfakes using pictures of female students of their age.

The victim was in great shock, and the education office disclosed her real name during the case process, leading to controversy over the second offense.

Reporter Chung Hyeon-woo reports.

Ms. A, who entered middle school in March, told her friend that she saw a picture of herself in a deepfake.

When I checked, the photos posted on SNS in the past were synthesized naked by another first-year middle school student and distributed to two other people.

Eventually, the boy was booked by the police for making a deepfake compound and sent to the family court.

[Ms. A] She was in a state of shock after receiving the photo and was very afraid to be known.]

During the process of handling the case, both parents of A urged the school and the police to keep their identity private because they were worried about the impact of the child.

The school has also promised again and again.

However, despite repeated demands from the victims and the school, the Office of Education sent a notice revealing the name.

The Cheonan Office of Education delivered a notice of convocation of the school violence review committee to three victims and three perpetrators, revealing the names of six schools.

It even contained the perpetrator's statement in detail, so the damage situation was exposed intact.

[Ms. A: My child has already been identified, so I think it's an irreversible situation.]

The Cheonan Office of Education admitted its mistake.

She said she wanted to hide the fact that she reported it, so she only took away the report-related details, and promised to actively anonymize it in the future.

[Official of Cheonan Office of Education: Student says yes.... In this case, I'm telling you that we will actively anonymize it as you said.]

However, Ms. A and her parents are calling for fundamental measures, saying that the Office of Education, which should prevent "secondary harm," rather hurt the victim more.
