California Gov. Gavin Newsom has promised that even if Trump removes up to $7,500 in tax credits to promote EV purchases, California will continue to support EV purchases.
Gov. Newsom, a Democrat of the U.S., said he would propose reintroducing California's previously implemented eco-friendly vehicle refund system if the incoming Trump administration removes the federal electric vehicle tax credit.
"We will not give up on the future of eco-friendly transportation and we will make driving non-polluting vehicles cheaper," he said.
California has provided up to $7,500 per electric vehicle from 2010 to 2023, making it mandatory to sell all new cars and light trucks as zero-emission vehicles by 2035.
Governor Newsom is one of the first Democratic governors to raise the flag of resistance, saying he would not force the state to implement conservative policies after Trump won the presidential election.
