Trump resigns as chief of the Southern District Prosecutors' Office in New York ahead of his inauguration

Damien Williams, the chief prosecutor of the Southern District Prosecutors' Office in New York, nicknamed the Wall Street Grim Reaper, said he will resign on the 13th of next month before U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.

Williams, a former Yale Law School graduate, became the first black person to be appointed as chief of the Southern Federal District Prosecutors' Office in New York in 2021 under Joe Biden's administration.

The Southern Federal District Prosecutors' Office in New York is a well-known investigative agency for white-collar criminal investigations, including stock price manipulation.

During the first Trump administration, he also investigated former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal lawyer, and prosecuted Michael Cohen, who was called Trump's butler, to serve a three-year sentence.

Trump previously named Jay Clayton, former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, as the next head of the Southern Federal District Prosecutors' Office on the 14th.
