A South Korean teenager who was reported missing in Turkey last month appears to have joined the Islamic State (IS) militant body and may have been receiving training.

The National Intelligence Service (NIS) reported to a parliamentary committee on Tuesday that the 18-year-old, identified only by his surname Kim, is known to stay at an IS training camp.

However, the state spy agency said it could not confirm the precise location where Kim is stationed.

Kim disappeared on Jan. 10 during a trip to the southern Turkish town of Kilis. Later, he was found to have crossed the border into Syria to voluntarily join the extremist Islamic group.
