Kill a black woman, pig food...South Africa Infested with White Farmer Crimes

The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 2nd that a white farmer in South Africa has been found to have killed black women who sneaked into his farm and dumped them in pig cages.

In mid-August, two black women sneaked into a white-run farm to save discarded food, and were shot and killed by a white farm owner, according to the NYT.

The farmers and custodians, who are white, even dumped their bodies in pig cages, and according to local police, some were found to have been eaten by pigs.

The incident has angered South African society, with residents protesting outside the courthouse and politicians issuing angry statements.

The son of a black woman who died complained that the mother was just looking for something to feed her children, and that it was difficult to even think about how such a life ended so horribly.

The suspects remain in custody, and the court has postponed the bail hearing until Nov. 6.

The New York Times noted that the incident sparked a debate over the conflict between white commercial plantation owners and black neighbors, which often leads to race- and gender-based violence and bloodshed, which is a chronic problem in South Africa.

During apartheid, which lasted until 1994, many black people were forcibly deprived of land ownership, and in South Africa, most major commercial farms remain white-owned.

Many black people in rural areas still live poor lives and are in a situation where they have to search through piles of garbage on farms in search of food.

However, there is also a counterargument that many white farmers have been under constant intrusion and have felt threatened accordingly.
