Lee Jae-myung requests reallocation of court for 'double bubble remittance'

Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was handed over to trial on charges of bribery by a third party related to "Ssangbangwool Remittance to North Korea," was found to have asked the court to reallocate the court.

Representative Lee submitted an opinion to the Suwon District Court on the 30th of last month, requesting the reallocation of the court.

It is not known why representative Lee asked for reallocation, but it is interpreted as the intention to allocate the case to a court other than Criminal Department 11, which previously admitted former Gyeonggi Province Deputy Governor for Peace Lee Hwa-young's allegations of remittance to North Korea.

Lee is accused of conspiring with former lieutenant governor Lee to pay Kim Sung-tae, former chairman of Ssangbangwool Group, $5 million for the "Hwanghae Province Smart Farm Support" project, which Gyeonggi Province promised to pay to North Korea from January to April 2019.

The prosecution suspects that CEO Lee and others promised former Chairman Kim "Gyeonggi Province's support and guarantee for the Ssangbangwool Group's business in North Korea" in return.
