A Yazidi girl, an Iraqi minority ethnic group kidnapped by Islamic State and IS at the age of 11, has been rescued from Gaza, Palestine, for the first time in 10 years.

Iraq's foreign minister, chief of staff Silwan Shinzari, says Iraq, the U.S. and Israel rescued 21-year-old Fazia Thido after a four-month secret operation.

He also explained that he is with his family in northern Iraq and is in good health, but is shocked by his long detention and the dire situation in Gaza.

Israeli forces have also worked with the U.S. and other countries to rescue the city, saying the person holding the city may have been killed in an Israeli airstrike.

An Israeli diplomat released the video on social media, saying the attempt was the moment he met with his family.

Iraqi officials had been in contact with the city for several months and sent personal information of the city to Israel through the United States to try to rescue it, sources said.

Iraq and Israel have no diplomatic relations.

U.S. defense officials said the rescue did not involve U.S. troops.

In 2014, IS attacked Sanjar, northern Iraq, a Yazidi enclave, killing 5,000 people and kidnapping 6,000 people.

After years of efforts, more than 3,500 people returned, but 2,600 people are still missing.
