NEC Talks Invited Only 'Conservative Cho Jeon-hyuk'... Resistance to 'Progressive Jung Geun-sik'

Ahead of the by-election of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Chung Geun-sik, a candidate for unification of the conservative camp, protested as only Cho Jeon-hyuk was invited to the candidate talks hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Election Commission and KBS.

The Seoul Metropolitan Election Commission said it will invite only Cho Jeon-hyuk among the four candidates to the TV conference inviting candidates for the Seoul Superintendent of Education by-election, which will be held the afternoon after tomorrow (6th) with KBS.

In order to be invited to the meeting and debate organized by the NEC, the average approval rating of opinion polls conducted and published by media organizations must be at least 5% or more, or the election vote rate must be at least 10% in the last four years.

The NEC explained that it invited only candidate Cho, who received 23.49% of the vote in the 2022 superintendent election, because there were no public opinion polls published by media organizations until the 2nd.

In response, candidate Chung Geun-sik stressed that it would be biased and unacceptable for only candidate Cho to hold a meeting first, and that he would take legal action, including applying for an injunction.

In a two-day virtual face-to-face survey conducted by CBS No Cut News at the Korea Social Opinion Research Institute earlier, candidate Chung recorded 37.1% and candidate Cho 32.5%.
