The Cheongju District Prosecutors' Office indicted former lawmaker Jung Woo-taek, who is suspected of receiving money envelopes along with requests from local self-employed people, without detention on charges of mediation and bribery.

Former lawmaker Chung is accused of receiving money and valuables worth 7.4 million won, including money envelopes, from a local cafe operator A several times from March 2022 to October of the same year.

Mr. A reportedly handed over money and valuables to government officials, asking them to find out how to operate a cafe in the water source protection zone.

However, former lawmaker Chung denied the charges, saying he had never received illegal money or goods.
