The 18th typhoon 'Kuraton' is expected to weaken from Taiwan to a tropical depression in the morning, and will not have a direct impact on Korea.

The first autumn leaves of this year began on Mt. Seorak, about four days later than last year.

We will connect with reporters to find out the typhoon and autumn leaves. Reporter Kim Minkyung!

The typhoon weakened to a tropical depression this morning?

[Reporter]
Yes, Typhoon No. 18 'Kuraton' weakened from inland Taiwan to a tropical depression at 9 a.m.

As the typhoon moved inland from Taiwan, it weakened sharply due to the influence of the high mountain range in the east and the shallow depth in the west.

Contrary to what was feared, it did not come close to the Korean Peninsula, and the impact of the rain clouds left by the typhoon is not expected to be significant in Korea.

However, up to 60mm of rain is expected on Jeju Island and the south on Sunday and Monday, and high waves of up to 4m are expected at sea.

I'll also look into the situation of autumn leaves.

The first fall foliage began this fall at Mt. Seorak?

[Reporter]
Yes, the first autumn leaves of the year began today at Mt. Seorak in Gangwon-do.

The start of autumn leaves refers to the time when the entire mountain is colored about 20% from the top.

This year started four days later than last year and six days later than usual.

It was analyzed that the autumn leaves began to turn red late because the lowest temperatures in Sokcho and Seoraksan Mountain since mid-September were 1 to 2 degrees higher than usual.

Fall foliage has only begun to turn red on Seoraksan Mountain, but it is expected that it will be possible to see red autumn leaves on Bukhansan Mountain around October 18 and Naejangsan Mountain on the 24th.

The peak of autumn leaves is when about 80% of the entire mountain is colored, and usually appears about 20 days after the start of autumn leaves.
