In the 22nd National Assembly election held in April, 14 active lawmakers were put on trial for violating the Public Official Election Act.

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office said it had indicted 1,019 people, including 14 elected officials, on charges of violating election laws until yesterday (10th) when the statute of limitations for election offenders in the 22nd general election ends.

Compared with the 21st general election held in 2020, the number of suspects booked rose 7.9% from 2,874 to 3,101, but the number charged fell 11.7% from 1,154 to 1,019.

Of the incumbent lawmakers indicted, 10 are from the Democratic Party of Korea and four are from the People's Power.

As for the types of cases of the indicted lawmakers, six were spread of false information and black propaganda, four were in violation of bribery or primary campaign methods, two were related to opinion polls, and two were the use of a confirmation device and two door-to-door visits.

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office said it will maintain a thorough prosecution so that punishments equivalent to illegality can be sentenced and closely consult with the court to complete the trial within the election criminal trial period under the election law.
