Israeli air strikes killed at least 15 people in the southern Lebanese city of Kana early on the 16th local time.

Lebanon's civil defence force says it has recovered 15 bodies from the rubble of the bombed building and rescue efforts are still underway.

AFP also quoted local authorities as saying 11 bombings were carried out in the Hezbollah-controlled southern Lebanon Navatiye area.

Lebanon's health ministry says at least six people, including Mayor Ahmad Cahill, were killed after the Navatye City Hall building was damaged by airstrikes.

The southern Lebanese city of Kana was also home to a number of civilian deaths during the past conflicts with Israel and Hezbollah, and nearly 30 people, including children, were killed by Israeli military airstrikes in residential areas during the 2006 war.

In 1996, Israeli forces also shelled a U.N. camp in Cana that housed hundreds of people displaced, killing at least 100 civilians and injuring numerous others, including four U.N. peacekeepers.
