H5N1 type highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI), which is prevalent worldwide, has been detected for the first time in Korea.

The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced today (17th) that H5N1 type highly pathogenic avian influenza was finally confirmed in wild birds captured in Cheongmichon, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province on the 14th.

H5N1 type accounts for about 85% of the world's avian influenza, and only H5N3 type was recently detected in Korea.

The quarantine authorities decided to set 10km near the detection point as a forecast area for wild algae and control the movement of poultry raised.

It will also ban people and vehicles from nearby migratory birds and strengthen quarantine on poultry farms.

The quarantine authorities asked poultry farms to strictly follow blocking quarantine rules and report any minor symptoms immediately.
