The government has paid 1.5 trillion won in health insurance benefits in advance to 74 training hospitals that have been in financial difficulties due to the departure of their majors.

According to the data received by Han Ji-ah, a member of the People's Power, the government paid KRW 1.4843 trillion to 74 training hospitals in the medical field within up to 30% of the salary cost for June-August last year.

Seoul National University Hospital received a total of 67.4 billion won in advance, Seoul Asan Hospital received 110.6 billion won, Severance Hospital 87.9 billion won, Samsung Seoul Hospital received 85.8 billion won, and Seoul St. Mary's Hospital received 47.2 billion won.

The Health Insurance Corporation plans to collect the pre-paid salaries by dividing one-sixth of the salary to be paid to these hospitals into equal installments from the first half of next year.

Health insurance advance payments are the same system as loans that pay each medical institution a certain amount of salary for the same month last year first and then settle it afterwards.

The government announced a plan to support pre-payment of health insurance in May as training hospitals struggled to operate due to prolonged collective action by residents.
