Increasing proportion of non-regular workers...The wage gap between regular workers and wages is 1.75 million won, the largest ever.

The proportion of non-regular workers among wage workers in Korea has increased in three years, and the wage gap between regular and non-regular workers has widened again to a record high.

According to the additional survey by type of work by the National Statistical Office, out of 22 million wage workers as of August, the number of non-regular workers was 8.459 million and 38.2%, up 1.2% from a year ago.

The average monthly wage for regular workers was 3,796,000 won, and for non-regular workers, it was 2,048,000 won, and the wage gap reached 1,748,000 won, the highest ever.

The National Statistical Office said that the areas where the proportion of regular workers has decreased were manufacturing, construction, wholesale/retail, and accommodation/food industries, which are believed to have affected the sluggish domestic economy.

Among non-regular workers, the number of part-time workers increased by 383,000 from a year ago, and the proportion of part-time workers among non-regular workers was 50.3%, the highest ever.

The number of part-time workers has increased to women, over 60 years old, young people, accommodation and food, health and social services, and public administration.

According to the social insurance coverage rate of non-regular workers, the national pension was 37.5% and health insurance was 52.2%, down 0.9%p and 0.4%p from last year, respectively, while employment insurance rose 0.5%p to 54.7%.

Among the non-regular workers, 66.6% of them chose a job type as a voluntary reason, and 59.9% of them said they were satisfied with the working conditions.

The National Statistical Office explained that there is a trend among young and old people who prefer to work as long as they want at the time they want.
