YG Entertainment executive producer Yang Hyun-suk has been put on trial for failing to report a total of 800 million won worth of luxury watches he received from overseas to customs.
On the 13th of last month, the Busan District Prosecutors' Office's Department of Public and International Crime Investigation indicted Yang Hyun-seok without detention on charges of violating the Specific Crime Weighted Penalty Act (tariff).General manager
Yang is accused of bringing two luxury watches worth KRW 711.5 million and KRW 116.55 million, respectively, into the country without reporting them to customs in 2014. When Yang
was indicted, YG Entertainment protested, saying, "There is a lot of regret and it is difficult to understand."
YG explained that Yang was only sponsored by a watch company in 2014 after being asked to promote it. However, in 2017, three years later, the watch company was in trouble because it did not go through customs procedures properly, and in the process, Yang's sponsorship watch was investigated.
YG said, "During the investigation, the company's representative's statements changed from time to time, and the prosecution, which is nearing the statute of limitations of 10 years, prosecuted the company after concluding that the sponsored goods were brought into the country without customs declaration without properly investigating the witnesses who met the general manager Yang Hyun-seok's statement."
However, the report came out from The Fact today (23rd) that a message containing circumstantial evidence that Yang first requested a watch from the company's CEO at the time was contained in the indictment. This is drawing attention as it contradicts YG's explanation that it was sponsored for public relations purposes.
YG, however, said, "It is not different from the previous position," and did not disclose an additional position.
