The Ministry of Education welcomed the announcement of the participation of the ruling and opposition legislative council by the Korean Medical Association and the Korea Medical College and Medical School Association, but stressed that the policy of approving conditional leave of absence remains unchanged.

The Ministry of Education said it hopes that the participation of the two doctors' groups in the consultative body will serve as an opportunity to overcome the current legislative conflict and take medical reform one step further.

However, the government's current position emphasized that, as announced on the 6th, taking a leave of absence from the alliance is not a legitimate reason and that it is the same for the policy to approve leave of absence on the premise of returning students in 2025.

Regarding the adjustment of medical school quotas, he explained that it is impossible to adjust the number of medical schools for the 2025 school year, and that the admission quota for medical schools for the 26th school year can be discussed if the medical community presents reasonable opinions based on scientific grounds.

The Ministry of Education also said it respects the independence and autonomy of the Korea Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation, but believes that improvement is necessary if there are institutional deficiencies in securing fairness and objectivity in evaluation and certification.
