The competition rate for the appointment examination for public teachers in Seoul has fallen for three consecutive years.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said that 5,671 people applied to select 914 teachers for next year's secondary school and special teachers, recording a 6.2-to-1 competition rate.
The number of people selected increased by 127 from last year, but the number of applicants decreased by 341.
The competition rate for the public school teacher appointment examination has been on the decline for the next three years after recording 9.81 to 1 in 2022.
In particular, the competition rate for secondary school teachers in public schools fell to 6.05 to 1 in 2025, almost half that of 2020.
The subject with the highest competition rate was librarians, with 58 applicants for the selection of two, recording a competition rate of 29 to 1.
