Shin Won-sik, head of the presidential office's national security office, who visited the U.S. for the South Korea-U.S.-Japan Security Office meeting, also had a separate meeting with U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in Washington.

The president's office issued a press release saying both sides condemned North Korea's continued illegal transfer of weapons to Russia and its dispatch of troops to support Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine in the strongest language, and shared the view that such Russian military cooperation threatens security around the world.

He also explained that he discussed North Korea's reckless provocations such as the bombing of roads and railways linking the two Koreas and the spraying of filth balloons and reaffirmed that he would maintain a strong ROK-U.S. joint defense posture.

Shin also held a separate meeting with Takeo Akiba, director of the Japanese National Security Agency, and decided to strengthen cooperation and solidarity with the international community over the security situation.

In addition, the security office of the two countries also decided to make efforts to make next year, which marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan, a historic milestone in Korea-Japan relations.
