Jin Doo-hyun, a Korean-Japanese who was imprisoned for the so-called "Unification Revolutionary Party Case" during the Park Chung-hee administration, was acquitted 48 years after the final verdict of death.

The Seoul High Court acquitted the late Jin Doo-hyun yesterday (31st) in a retrial of the violation of the National Security Law.

Park Seok-joo, an employee of the defense industry who was sentenced to 10 years in prison on the same charges, was also acquitted.

The court said Jin and others appear to have stated that they admit the charges after being abused, and that it is difficult to recognize the ability to prove that accomplice statements or confiscations are also due to illegal investigations.

"After half a century, the family still appears to be in pain," he said, adding that he hoped yesterday's ruling would provide a small comfort to the bereaved.

Immediately after the sentence, Jin's wife held a press conference and said that she had lived so far with the desire to relieve her husband's unfairness, and that she hoped the prosecution would not appeal.

The Unification Revolutionary Party incident was a large-scale spy group case announced by the Central Intelligence Agency during the Park Chung-hee administration in August 1968, and it is said that those who received North Korean orders formed the Unification Revolutionary Party and engaged in anti-government activities.

A total of 17 people were convicted in this case, and Jin was released from prison in 1990 after serving 16 years in prison after being sentenced to death in 1976.
