Montenegro Attorney General "Kwon Do-hyung Case, There Was No Pressure Between Korea and the U.S....extradition"

2024.11.05 PM 11:48
Montenegro's Justice Minister said he would definitely extradite Kwon Do-hyung, a key figure in the cryptocurrency "Terra and Luna" crash, saying there was no pressure from the South Korean and U.S. governments.

"We discussed the issue diplomatically with representatives of the Korean and U.S. embassies, but there was no pressure," Bojan Bozovic told Grazka RTV's current affairs program on the evening of 4th local time, according to local daily Poveda.

Minister Bozovic stressed that Kwon's extradition will definitely take place and that "it is impossible to remain in Montenegro."

Unlike the U.S., which has an embassy in Montenegro, South Korea is in charge of the issue at its neighboring embassy in Serbia.

Accordingly, the South Korean government seems to have conveyed to the Montenegrin government that it wants to extradite Kwon through diplomatic channels through the Embassy of Serbia.

Currently, Kwon's extradition process has been temporarily suspended due to the involvement of the Montenegrin Constitutional Court, and it is unclear to which country he will be extradited.

Kwon filed a constitutional petition with the Constitutional Court in opposition to the Supreme Court's earlier decision to repatriate the lower court to Korea and transfer the case itself to the Ministry of Justice, allowing the Minister of Justice to decide on the extradition country.

The attorney general said he would decide on the extradition bureau in the middle of last month, but the next day, the court accepted Kwon's request for an injunction to stop the extradition process, delaying the extradition decision.

As a result, Kwon's extradition proceedings will depend on the Constitutional Court's decision on the original case.Mr.

is being held there as he continues his extradition trial after being arrested in March last year while trying to leave for the United Arab Emirates on a counterfeit passport at the Montenegro Podgorica International Airport.
