French Parents Litigation Against TikTok..."Disclosure of harmful content".

Seven families have filed a class action lawsuit in France, claiming that Chinese video sharing platform "TikTok" harms adolescents' mental health.

France's Anpo reported that the family's lawyer, Lor Boutron Marmion, filed a civil suit against TikTok in a court in Creteu near Paris on the 4th local time.

Algos Bigtima, a social network victim group that brings together families involved in the lawsuit, claimed that TikTok has exposed countless videos to children that promote suicide, self-harm and eating disorders.

Because of this, the plaintiffs' teenage daughters had physical and mental problems, they argued.

Two of the plaintiffs' seven daughters took their own lives, four attempted extreme choices and one was found to be suffering from anorexia, the outlet said.

One parent who participated in the lawsuit said that all she thought of on TikTok was a dance video or an explanation of makeup, and that she didn't even think there would be a video explaining how to hurt herself.

The plaintiffs argue that it is also unconvincing that TikTok has not properly taken steps to prevent minors from being exposed to harmful content and has not warned them in advance about TikTok's addictive nature.

The group said the lawsuit was the first in Europe and explained its ultimate goal was to have TikTok acknowledge its responsibility and come up with measures to prevent a recurrence.

In this regard, TikTok told France's Anpo that it had "not received any notice about this judicial process" and that it was "taking necessary steps to protect young users."
