Unidentified drones continue to appear in New Jersey, adjacent to New York, the largest city in the United States, leaving residents anxious, AFP reported.
Despite weeks of dangerous situations in which large light-splitting drones fly overhead with unique noise, it has not been understood who is doing this for what purpose.
Chris Smith, a New Jersey-area congressman, asked Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to answer as residents' agitation grew and there were even conspiracy theories that drones were UFOs or Iran and other adversaries were attacking the United States.
The Pentagon has not been able to provide a quick response except that the drone in question is not a U.S. military drone, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation says it is aware of the drone's appearance and is working with other agencies.
In the U.S., drones can be used for commercial or recreational purposes, but they must comply with Federal Aviation Administration regulations, and witnesses say the mysterious vehicle appearing in New Jersey looked larger than the average drone.
