YTN's successive reports on illegal collection have won the Democratic Press Practice Award, presented by the National Press Union.
The National Press Workers' Union held an award ceremony today (23rd) and selected YTN's social affairs manager, Lee Hyun-jung, and Yoo Jun-seok and Shim Won-bo of the first division of video coverage as the winners of the Democratic Press Practice Award in November.
The judges evaluated that the reporters' view of the underprivileged seems to be looking at the modern version of Les Misérables in that they did not deal with the death of a single mother in her 30s due to illegal collection as a simple incident article, but dug deep and wide into the problems of illegal bonds.
It also added that it caused a big stir and led to the improvement of the social system by addressing problems such as illegal bonds and collection companies and accusing them of deficiencies in the law.
Earlier, YTN pointed out the problems of illegal collection, exclusively reporting on a woman in her 30s who was raising her kindergarten daughter alone borrowed money from loan sharks and died in September after thousands of percent annualized and illegal collection.
