Yangju African Swine Fever (ASF) All Tests 'negative'

The Gyeonggi provincial government said that a detailed examination of pig farms in quarantine or epidemiological conditions for the recent outbreak of African swine fever in Yangju showed that all of them were negative.

Earlier on the 16th, Gyeonggi Province mobilized 160 available disinfection vehicles, including joint control groups, to disinfect vulnerable farms and surrounding roads after the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) at a pig farm in Yangju City.

In order to prevent the spread of diseases between farms, 32 people from 17 livestock quarantine officers were mobilized to conduct clinical and detailed examinations of 45 pig farms (40 in Yangju, 5 in Dongducheon) and 9 epidemiological farms (4 in Paju, 5 in Pocheon) within a 10-kilometer radius of the farm.

Jeong Bong-soo, head of the Animal Hygiene Test in northern Gyeonggi-do, said, "As winter is a time when wild boars are difficult to feed, pig farmers should thoroughly manage quarantine facilities and follow basic quarantine rules," and added, "If you have any suspicious symptoms on the farm, you should report them to the quarantine authorities immediately."

Since 2019, ASF has reported 49 cases (20 cases in Gyeonggi) in 19 cities and counties in Gyeonggi, Incheon, Gangwon and North Gyeongsang Province, and 4,200 cases (676 cases in Gyeonggi) in 43 cities and counties across the country have been confirmed in wild boars.
