The Defense Acquisition Program Administration has signed a three-year contract with Samyang Chemical Industries to mass-produce infrared shielding smoke tubes for ground and water purposes worth 7.5 billion won.

Infrared shielded smoke barrel is a device that blocks enemy aiming fire, monitoring equipment operation, and guided weapon guidance through infrared rays by detonating a smoke screen that prevents enemy observation or target identification.

Under the contract, the agency said electricity will begin in earnest next year after initial product inspections and field operation tests.

Earlier, since the early 1980s, our military has been using white smoke tubes that can only respond to visible light, and developed infrared shielding smoke tubes in 2020 as the need to respond to infrared rays has also been raised.
