President Yoon Suk Yeol held his first summit in two years with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Lima, Peru.

윤 대통령은 러시아와 북한의 군사협력에 대응해 한중 양국이 역내 안정과 평화를 도모하는데 협력해 나가기를 바란다고 말했는데요,

Let's hear all of President Yoon's remarks firsthand.

[Yoon Suk Yeol / President: I am glad to have the first meeting in a year after greeting the President at the APEC Leaders Meeting last year. When I had a meeting with the President in Bali two years ago, I had a conversation that was beneficial for bilateral cooperation and further developing Korea-China relations based on a common belief in multilateralism and free trade. Based on this consensus, I am pleased that the two countries have been actively engaged in various meetings, including the Korea-China-Japan summit in May this year.

China is an important country where we work closely in three areas: security, economy, culture and people-to-people exchanges. I hope that the two countries will develop a strategic cooperative partnership based on mutual respect, mutual benefit and common interest.

Amid the rapid change in global security and economic order, Korea and China continue to communicate and cooperate closely in the face of various challenges. In particular, I hope that Korea and China will cooperate in promoting stability and peace in the region in response to North Korea's successive provocations, the war in Ukraine, and military cooperation with Russia.

I hope that we will further strengthen cooperation in the economic field, which has been the central axis of bilateral relations over the past 30 years, and promote the people's livelihoods of both countries together. As peace and prosperity in the region, including the Korean Peninsula, is in the common interest of South Korea and China, we look forward to deep discussions on ways to cooperate for this through today's meeting.
