In the National Assembly, opposition parties are facing fierce confrontation as floor leader Kwon Sung-dong of People's Power argues that three vacant constitutional judges should not be appointed until the impeachment trial of President Yoon is over.

The Democratic Party said it was sophistry to delay the impeachment trial and accused the people of still failing to come to their senses.

Yes, it's the National Assembly.

I thought the appointment of a constitutional judge was going smoothly, but the ruling party's position changed today, right?

Yes, the ruling and opposition parties previously recommended three candidates for the vacant Constitutional Court and even nominated a special committee member to conduct a confirmation hearing, but this morning, floor leader Kwon Sung-dong of the People's Power argued that their appointment was impossible.

The floor leaders of the ruling and opposition parties held a meeting presided over by the chairman of the National Assembly a while ago, and the atmosphere was very cold, with loud voices coming and going.Since the impeachment motion of President

yoon was passed, and the floor leader Kwon Sung-dong, the People's Power, took office, a fierce competition between the ruling and opposition parties took place.

Kwon Sung-dong, the floor leader, argues that acting president Han Deok-soo cannot even appoint an independent justice of the Constitutional Court because the president's position is not empty now, but only his duties have been suspended.

During the impeachment of former President Park Geun Hye, the Democratic Party also criticized the appointment of Acting Constitutional Judge Hwang Kyo-ahn and stressed that the judge was appointed after the Constitutional Court's decision to dismiss him was made.

Six constitutional judges argued that there is a problem with hearing the president's impeachment case, but that the Democratic Party is responsible for creating a "six-person system."

[Kwon Seong-dong / People's Power Floor Leader: Eight years ago, when Park Geun Hye was impeached, Rep. Choo Mi-ae, Rep. Woo Sang-ho of the Democratic Party, and Park Beom-gye of the Judiciary Committee, who later served as justice minister, all argued that acting president cannot appoint a constitutional judge..]

However, the Democratic Party refuted that the constitutional judge appointed by Acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn during the impeachment of former President Park Geun Hye was recommended by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The Democratic Party of Korea said it opposed the appointment of a successor to the then Constitutional Court chief appointed by former President Park himself, arguing that all currently vacant constitutional judges should be appointed by the acting president because they are recommended by the National Assembly.

The nine-member system needs to be restored for fairness in the impeachment trial of President Yoon, and if the people refuse, the opposition party alone will form a special committee for personnel hearings tomorrow.

[Park Chan-dae / Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea: In February 2017, before the decision to impeach former President Park Geun Hye, floor leader Kwon Sung-dong said that the sooner the impeachment trial is, the better, the more time the country becomes unstable. I'll say the same thing. Please hurry.]

National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik asked the floor leaders of the ruling and opposition parties to recommend parliamentary investigators to get to the bottom of the December 3 emergency martial law incident as soon as possible.

However, the Democratic Party responded to this, but said it would discuss whether the power of the people would be effective as the investigation agency is already under way.
