Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok ordered all-out efforts to save lives by mobilizing all available equipment and personnel for the aircraft accident at Muan Airport in South Jeolla Province this morning.
Choi held an emergency meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at the Seoul Government Complex and ordered the acting Minister of Public Administration and Security, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the National Fire Agency Commissioner, and the acting Chief of the National Police Agency.
He also stressed that special care should be taken to prevent safety accidents such as firefighters from occurring during the lifesaving process.
Afterwards, acting Choi set off for the scene of the accident.
Acting President Choi launched the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters with him as the head of the headquarters in earnest.
The Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport was the first deputy chief and the acting Minister of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security was the second deputy chief, ordering the mobilization of pan-governmental capabilities, rapid response, and measures to deal with damage.
The government said it is actively responding to the accident in the absence of the president and the prime minister under the direction of Acting President Choi, adding that related ministries, including the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, the Office of Government Policy Coordination, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, have been in close contact, consulting and sharing accident information since the accident occurred.
