A man in his 50s who assaulted a debtor with Cho Yang-eun, a former leader of the gang "Yang Eun-pa," was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence.

The Seoul Central District Court recently sentenced A, in his 50s, to two years in prison and three years of probation on special injury charges.

The court said that A denied the crime and did not show remorse, but that most of the assault appeared to have been committed by Cho.

Mr. A is accused of holding Mr. B while Mr. Cho took off his clothes in the Philippines from January to February 2013, pointing a handgun at the victim, Mr. B, and hitting him in the body with his fists and feet.

Mr. A was found to have assaulted Mr. B with his acquaintance, Mr. Cho, when he lent money to another person through Mr. B and did not get it back.

Cho, who was indicted separately on the same charges as A, was acquitted by the Supreme Court in April last year.

The first trial convicted Cho and sentenced him to three years in prison, but the second trial overturned him not guilty, saying he did not have the ability to testify in the statements of B, a key witness. This is because

B appeared as a witness at the first trial, but the court testimony was not made because he could not be reached after the address was changed at the second trial.
