North Korean defector who attempted to defect to North Korea by stealing bus, arrested..."To see my family".

A North Korean defector in his 30s who stole a village bus and attempted to defect to the North has been arrested.

The Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency said yesterday (3rd) that it arrested a man in his 30s on charges of violating the National Security Law and the Military Base Protection Law, theft and unlicensed driving.

Mr. A is accused of attempting to defect to the Tongil Bridge by driving a stolen village bus from a garage in Munsan-eup, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, at around 1 a.m. on the 1st.

Even after entering the Tongil Bridge, A was found to have run 800 meters north and hit a blocking fence installed in front of the North Gate checkpoint and stopped.

Mr. A, who defected from North Korea more than 10 years ago, reportedly stated that he committed the crime because he couldn't live in South Korea and wanted to see his family members who left him in North Korea.
