Days after an incumbent police officer was caught stealing 300 million won worth of seized goods, another officer was arrested this time for stealing cash seized during a voice phishing investigation.

Amid criticism that there are loopholes in the confiscated material management system, the police belatedly came up with measures, saying they would investigate the current status of evidence management.

Reporter Lee Hyun-jung's report.

Police arrested Sergeant Kim, a member of the Criminal Division of Yongsan Police Station in Seoul. It has been found that Sergeant Kim

stole some of the bundles of cash that were confiscated and stored in the warehouse while working on voice phishing investigations.

The police immediately removed Sergeant Kim from his position and are investigating the details of the incident.

According to the YTN report, Sergeant Kim was caught trying to return the stolen money after seeing the recent theft of 300 million won confiscated goods at the Gangnam Police Station.

Earlier, Sergeant Jeong, a member of the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, was also arrested for stealing 300 million won worth of confiscated goods.

[Sgt. Jeong / Crime Prevention Response Division, Gangnam Police Station, Seoul: (Did you not think you would be caught?)]. (Did you plan the crime alone?) .... (Are you sure you were trying to make up for the loss of your investment failure?) ....]

When he was a member of the investigation department, Sergeant Chung was in charge of managing confiscated materials, and it is reported that he committed the crime around this time.

Even though identification devices such as barcodes were attached, a large hole was drilled in the management of confiscated objects due to the police discipline.

[E-Sale / Lawyers who used to be a police officer: There's a separate person who manages confiscated materials, right? I think we should strengthen the management of the management ledger through cross-checking.]

The National Police Agency belatedly said it would launch a full investigation of the evidence after a series of confiscations that had been stored at the police station were revealed in the hands of no other than thieves.
