Some test-takers who applied for Yonsei University's occasional essay examination, which was controversial, filed a lawsuit to invalidate the exam.

While Yonsei University maintains its existing position, saying there will be no retesting, damage to fairness is expected to be a key issue in court.

Reporter Kim Yi-young reports.

Eighteen students who applied for Yonsei University's natural science essay filed a lawsuit to confirm the invalidity of the test and a provisional injunction for suspension of its effect to the court.

I'm asking you to invalidate the essay exam and prevent the announcement of the results by citing the provisional disposition before November 15th, when the successful candidate is expected to be announced.

[Nature Essay Contestant: I don't know if the test paper will have the characteristics of the test if I went around when it's not that controlled. Is it right to divide pass and fail again with that?.]

They point out that the pre-distribution of test papers in some test sites has undermined fairness.

[Kim Jeong-sun / Yonsei University's essay class action agent: It was a time to solve one or two questions for 20 minutes. Why are you talking like this?. I search based on what I saw then, ask ChatGPT, or contact other friends....]

It is also said that some test takers have seen the type of problem and that it is a problem to post it on the Internet community.

[Kim Jeong-sun / Yonsei University's essay class action agent: If a question is asked in terms of geometry or probability, it has a much better advantage when solving a question because you can encounter it and look into it intensively for almost an hour....]

Yonsei University said it distributed the test papers in advance, but it was unable to share the problem until the collection of the test papers because it was required to put the cell phone in the bag with the power off.

He also said that the writing describing the figure in the problem alone cannot identify the actual problem, and that it did not impair fairness.

Test takers also point out that the time and method of correcting the problem error were different for each test site,
The
school said it is difficult to express its position on the lawsuit as the police are investigating, but

As of now, we have repeatedly said that we do not consider retesting because there is no objective fact that infringes on the fairness of entrance examinations.

[Seo Jung-bin / Lawyer (YTN New Square 2PM): If fairness is compromised, I think we'll find out whether the successful candidate was a problem, how much is it attributable to the school, and what problems could arise if we deny the validity of the entire test.]

Amid sharp disagreements between the examinees and the school, the battle over the damage to the fairness of the test has continued in court.
