Two Drug Smugglers Dulled Into 'International Cooperation System' In One Month

Two Koreans who sent drugs to Korea from Thailand were quickly returned to Korea through an international cooperation system.

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office said yesterday (23rd) that it has repatriated two Koreans who smuggled methamphetamine into Korea from Thailand through a joint investigation with the Thai Drug Administration.

In the case of A in his 40s, he was accused of smuggling 38g of methamphetamine through international mail in December last year, and it took about a week to be arrested after he was identified.

Mr. B, in his 40s, was also accused of smuggling 1kg of methamphetamine in July, and he was arrested in Thailand 13 days after a local investigator obtained relevant information.

It took only about a month for both men to be arrested and repatriated to Korea.

A prosecution official explained that real-time local arrests were made possible as a result of establishing an "original strike-type international cooperation system" that dispatches our investigators to major drug sending countries.

Since 2019, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and the Thai Drug Administration have operated a mutual dispatch system for investigators, detecting 20 kilograms of heroin and arresting 11 drug offenders.
