The G7 leaders adopted a joint statement hoping for a diplomatic solution to the Middle East crisis a day after Iran launched airstrikes on Israel.

In a statement released after a video conference on Tuesday local time, the G7 leaders condemned Iran's attack on Israel and expressed strong concern, saying "conflict in the Middle East is in no one's interest."

"The G7 believes a diplomatic solution is still possible," he said, adding, "We have agreed to cooperate to ease tensions in the Middle East, starting with the implementation of UN Resolution 1701 to stabilize the Israeli-Lebanon border."

U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, adopted in 2006 to end the Israel-Lebanon war, calls for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon and the presence of Lebanese troops and U.N. peacekeepers in Lebanon, except Hezbollah, south of Lebanon's Ritani River.

Italian Prime Minister Meloni, who presided over the video conference, urged the U.N. Security Council to consider strengthening the U.N. peacekeeping mission to ensure the security of the Israel-Lebanon border ahead of the video conference.
