The U.S. called the conclusion of a special agreement on the sharing of defense costs between South Korea and the U.S. "a significant achievement for both countries."
The U.S. State Department said in a statement on the 4th local time, adding that "the agreement will strengthen the alliance and joint defense of the two countries."
"Since 1953, the ROK-U.S. alliance has been a key pillar of peace, security and prosperity in Northeast Asia, the Indo-Pacific, and beyond," he said.
South Korea and the U.S. have signed the 12th Korea-U.S. Special Agreement on the Sharing of Defense Expenses of the U.S. Forces Korea at 1.51 trillion won in 2026.
