"Israel presumed dead in 'Hezbollah's successor' airstrike"

Hashem Safiedin, who was considered to be the successor to Hasan Nasrallah, the head of Lebanon's militant Hezbollah, is believed to have been killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, according to reports.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Israel's state-run broadcaster Khan reported on the 4th local time, citing senior Israeli government officials.

Officials said Safiedin was inside the underground structure that Israel targeted and bombed, and it was unlikely he survived the attack.

Officials said they used a super-large bomb called the "bunkerbuster" at the time of the bombing, which Israel was also known to have used to remove Nasrallah earlier.

Xinhua said neither Israel nor Hezbollah have yet made official statements about Safiedin's condition.

Reuters also reported that "Safiedin's fate is unclear" and that neither Israel nor Hezbollah has said officially about his life or death.

Safiedin is Nasrallah's cousin, who organized the executive committee shortly after Nasrallah became Hezbollah's secretary general in 1992 and has been dedicated to Hezbollah's training system, foreign investment and other financial sectors for more than 30 years.
