John Hopfield and Jeffrey Hinton of the United States, who contributed to laying the groundwork for machine learning, a branch of artificial intelligence, were chosen as winners of this year's Nobel Prize in Physics.

Sweden's Nobel Committee said the two had developed a method to use physics tools to provide the basis for powerful machine learning.

Hopfield is working at Princeton University in the United States and Hinton at the University of Toronto in Canada.

The winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics will receive 11 million Swedish krona and 1.34 billion won in our money.

The Nobel Committee will present the Physiology and Medicine Prize yesterday, the Chemistry Prize tomorrow, the Literature Prize the day after tomorrow, and the Peace Prize on the 11th.
