Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has mentioned the need for a pragmatic approach to dismantling nuclear weapons, Kyodo News reported.

Tanaka Terumi, co-chairman of the "Nihon Hidankyo," who won the Nobel Peace Prize, said in a congratulatory phone call today that Ishiba said the ultimate goal was to dismantle nuclear weapons but also the need for nuclear deterrence.

Nippon Hidankyo was highly praised for his efforts to dismantle nuclear weapons and won the Nobel Peace Prize this year.

Tanaka says he has asked Ishiba to take the lead in overcoming distrust between countries and preventing the war.

It added that Japan also expressed concern about still receiving U.S. nuclear umbrellas.
